⊷ I had only one day to write the game

⊶ 5 choices

⊷ 4 endings

⊶ About 10–15 minutes of gameplay

⊷ The game is available in English and Russian

You play as Mia, the girlfriend of Jeff—a brilliant scientist trying to save the world from a new epidemic. As humanity dies out and children are no longer born, Jeff locks himself in your shared bedroom-turned-lab and doesn't come out for weeks. You barely see him. You only hear him coughing through the wall and see poison-green light seeping under the door. You bring him sandwiches, try to pull him back to life, but he's on the verge of the discovery of the century. Or the verge of death.

You can't save the world. You can't save him from himself. But you can try.

What

will you do when the cost of failure is his life?

Your story has four endings. But only one of them isn't an ending.

All characters and events are fictional. We don't condone anything in the game. If it gets too much, please stop and take care of yourself first

Hey, I also participated in that publisher's Game Jam. If like us you are not entirely satisfied on how confusing things went about that jam I invite you to submit your game to the Salvage the Jam so we can have a safe place where we can all showcase, play, and feedback our games!

We really enjoyed playing this one. The story was a lot of fun to follow, and it pulled us in quickly without needing a long setup. The art style was a real highlight too. It was clean, consistent, and gave the game a clear identity that fit the tone of what you were going for. We also appreciated how tight the overall execution was. The game knew exactly how long it needed to be, and it ended before anything had a chance to drag, which is a smart call in a jam setting.

The main thing that held it back for us was how light the gameplay felt. The choices were a nice touch and gave us some sense of control, but outside of those moments there wasn't much for the player to actually do, and that was noticeable by the end. Making the choices feel more impactful, or adding a simple mechanic that ties into the story, like a small puzzle or an interaction that reinforces what the character is going through, could make the player feel more involved in the experience instead of mostly watching it unfold.

We also wished the game went a little deeper with its meaning. The foundation is there, and the themes you touched on had real potential, but they stayed fairly close to the surface. Leaning harder into what the story is really about, or leaving the player with something to think about after it ends, would give it a much stronger impact.

Overall, Toxic was a strong entry with a lot going for it. With a bit more for the player to do and a little more weight behind its message, it could really stand out. Great work, and thanks for submitting!
